The furnishing of free text-books, paper, pencils, and other supplies, Opens a wide door for wastefulness, and the children should be taught at home to consider them as a loan, to be used carefully and prudently. Many of our school-books have been in use quite a number of years, and show hard, careless usage, not to sav abuse. The district has been to so much expense the past two years for new buildings and re pairs that your committee thought best not to incur the cost of new books the present year, and for this reason have used some books that were decidedly the worse for wear. It is hoped the finances the coming year will warrant the purchase Of some new books.
